Safeguarding

At Thrive and Achieve, the safety and wellbeing of every student is our highest priority. We want all of our young people to feel safe, cared for, and supported, so that they can learn and grow with confidence.

What Safeguarding Means to Us

Safeguarding is about keeping children safe, not only from harm, but also by making sure they feel happy, secure, and valued. For us, this means:

  • Creating a caring and welcoming environment.

  • Listening to children and taking their concerns seriously.

  • Making sure our staff are trained and confident in keeping young people safe.

  • Working in partnership with families and other professionals to provide the best support possible.

The 5 R's of safeguarding

Recognise

Be aware of the signs and indicators of abuse or neglect in children and vulnerable adults. This involves knowing what to look for and being alert to behavioural changes or situations that might be a cause for concern.

Respond

Once a concern is recognised, respond appropriately and safely. This may involve speaking to the individual, offering support, or seeking advice from a supervisor or designated safeguarding lead.

Report

Report the concern to the appropriate person or authority, such as a designated safeguarding lead, your supervisor, or social services. This step ensures that the issue is escalated to those with the responsibility to take further action.

Record

Keep accurate and detailed records of what was seen, heard, or disclosed. This includes using the individual's own words and noting dates, times, and any actions taken. Records should be kept secure and be accessible to the right people.

Refer

Make a referral to other agencies or specialist services when necessary, such as social services, health services, or support charities. This ensures that the individual receives the support they need and that the situation is properly investigated.

  • Every member of staff is carefully DBS checked before they join us.

  • We provide regular training so our team know how to spot and respond to any concerns.

  • We encourage children to talk openly and know who they can turn to for help.

  • We work closely with parents and guardians, keeping you involved and informed.
